What to Consider

Materials & Construction

·Wool — Naturally temperature-regulating, odor-resistant, and moisture-wicking. Wool fibers bounce back to shape and can last years — making it ideal for garments worn frequently.
·Cashmere — Softer and lighter than wool but more delicate. Quality cashmere (look for long-fiber, 2-ply) pills less and can last a decade with care.
·Made by Totême in Sweden.

Longevity & Care

·Wool — Hand wash cold or dry clean. Avoid high heat — wool can felt and shrink. Store folded with cedar to prevent moths.

·Cashmere — Hand wash cold or dry clean. Store folded, never hung — hangers stretch the shoulders. Pilling is normal early on — use a cashmere comb.

·⚠ Beware ultra-cheap cashmere — short fibers pill quickly and lose shape. Look for 2-ply construction and long-staple fibers.

Sustainability

·Wool — Renewable and biodegradable. Wool is one of the most sustainable natural fibers — it decomposes in soil and requires no synthetic inputs when responsibly sourced.

Cost Per Use

·Wool — A wool garment worn twice a week for 5 years can cost as little as $0.15 per wear. Wool's natural odor resistance means fewer washes, extending its life further.
·Cashmere — A quality cashmere sweater at $200 worn weekly for 8 years costs about $0.50 per wear. Cheap cashmere ($50) often pills out within a season — making it more expensive per wear.
·Totême is known for products that hold up over years of use — which typically means a lower cost per use than cheaper alternatives that need replacing.
·Priced around $100 (midpoint of $50–$150 for Apparel). At ~8 uses/month, this hits the $1-per-use "worth it" mark in 1 years — and falls to roughly 21¢ per use across a 5-year lifespan.
